  1. So the Ford 150 EV is not outfitted with charging gear as standard, included equipment? Who knew? When did white become the best color for a fire department vehicle? Was it a Ford 150 white vehicle – a GFD vehicle – that was involved in that crash near Kaneville Road? Also, what is the purpose of this vehicle? a staff car? to assist EMTs? to replace an existing vehicle? Was that discussed by the City Council?

    1. all good questions. The truck was to be the backup command vehicle with the primary user being the fire marshal. The fire marshal would take the vehicle home, which raises the question of the cost of a charger at home. A standard charger does come with the truck, but this is a level one charger that adds only about 3 miles of charge to the range of the vehicle. A 220 level 3 charger can get the battery back up to 80% in a few hours. The vehicle charging station is outside and extreme cold degrades range and slows charging. The massive weight makes the vehicle much more dangerous in a collision. This
EV will be charged in Geneva where electricity is 60% coal generated, so the “renewable” box does not get checked.
